The 'concept' art pieces above are the selection of works completed for different themed exhibitions and competitions. Artist statement for the 'Evangelical Monument' The ‘Evangelical Monument’ is a portrait of a tree that was growing in an abandoned Evangelical Cemetery in the Polish Lake District. At the beginning of the XX century the evangelical population from that district was forced to flee the region due to sectarian unrests. The cemetery was left unkempt for nearly a century. There are a few old graves still to be found among huge monumental trees. The tree – ‘Evangelical Monument’ – (the name I gave) is an old silver birch of a size I have never seen before. It was standing proud as if to show the strength of the spirits that surround it. Although the painting is representing a botanical image, to me it is more an expression of its spirit that left a lasting impression on me, strong enough to paint it.
