MARIUSZ KALDOWSKI-Penderecki project
This series by Mariusz Kaldowski presents portraits of Krzysztof Penderecki, one of Poland’s most acclaimed composers. Through contemporary painting, the artist captures Penderecki’s powerful presence and the lasting resonance of his music. These works honour the composer’s legacy while inviting viewers to experience the dialogue between sound and visual art.
I first painted a portrait of Krzysztof Penderecki after meeting him and posing at his home. This work became part of a series of portraits of inspiring figures titled Velis Passis.
Shortly afterwards, still immersed in his music, I created a portrait triptych in my studio. It was inspired by both his compositions and the likeness from the original Velis Passis portrait. During the 1996 exhibition of the Velis Passis series at the Palace of Arts in Kraków, this Penderecki triptych was displayed in a separate room.
Over the years, the triptych was occasionally shown during concerts and meetings dedicated to Penderecki and his music.
My portraits of Penderecki have also been used on CD covers of his compositions and featured in various press articles.
